On Wednesday 8th May 2022, a group year 7 students had the opportunity to participate in a table cricket event at Edgbaston Cricket ground. The students competed against four other schools across Birmingham and cricket was the winner. It was all about inclusion and participation, allowing every child, regardless of ability, to feel involved and have a great time.

On Thursday 9th May 2022, a group of athletes from Year 7 & 8 participated in the annual KE Foundation athletics meeting at KES Birmingham. In true Sheldon spirit, we fought hard and competed in all events with some outstanding performances along the way.... The students were a credit to the Academy. The Year 7 team came 5th out of the 6 schools in attendance finishing ahead of KE Handsworth. Aiden - 1st place in Long Jump. Yusuf - 3rd place in 200m. The Year 8 team came 6th missing out by only a few points, deserving more for their efforts. Nathanael - 3rd place in 100m. Omar - 3rd place in Javelin. Thanks to KES for hosting a great event. @schoolsofkevi @KESBham

Wow! Layla in Year 11 will be carrying the baton for the Commonwealth Games. Well done Layla, we know this is a huge moment and you will do the country proud! @birminghamcg22

Today was a very special evening for our year 11 boys. Today was the last and final time our boys could wear the KESH jersey and represent this fantastic Academy in the finals.

We played Small Heath school who put up an fight. We had managed to take the lead as the constant pressure was too much for our opponents, Benji had managed to intercept a pass from the defender and calmly slot it past the keeper.

First half ends 1-0. Second half we started with great passing and movement off the ball, Zsombor had played a brilliant ball in behind as Matthew used his electric pace to get onto it, cut onto his left and finish with great power and accuracy into the top corner (2-0). Small Heath were creating more chances in the second half and were awarded a penalty which was calmly finished into the bottom right corner (2-1). However, the boys stayed positive and were persistent on achieving the third goal to increase the lead. Vinnie controlled the ball on his chest, set up perfectly for a half volley and smashed it from 30 yards out looping over the keeper. Great effort from Vinnie and a 3-1 lead was very important to relieve pressure.

Unfortunately, due to lack of concentration, the boys allowed a simple cross to creep in back post which their attacker scored and made it 3-2 with 10 minutes left. We had to take out our inner Jose Mourinho tactics and park the bus in order to secure the victory, what a masterclass decision! I must say all credit to the boys for their hard work and efforts to ensure the trophy was brought home to KESH.

It has been fantastic experience to lead my first year of fixtures and extra curricular activities, I have enjoyed it so much. The boys knew after a roller coaster few years missing out on so many opportunities, they can finish their journey at KESH on a high. If you see the boys around school, please congratulate them on their victory.

Mr Hussain

Yesterday evening we hosted @HandsworthGS for a basketball game. In the boys last dance of this academic year they came out on top with a 23-20 victory! It was a great game played in good spirit. The boys did us all proud.

Birmingham connect - commonwealth games 2022

We are part of the Birmingham connect initiative where we use the power of sport and excitement of the commonwealth games in Birmingham next summer to promote social integration of young people aged 12-14. We are paired with schools across the city and take part in meaningful social mixing to improve attitudes and perceptions held of people with different backgrounds; driven by young people who will catalyse change. @unibirmingham @youthsporttrust @birminghamcg22 #changinglives

Jujitsu

Mr Hussain has organised some professional jujitsu coaches to come in and deliver sessions - we have had a good uptake but definitely needs improved attendance - please encourage students in Years 9, 10 and 11 to attend.

Yesterday, some of our year 8 and 9 students got involved in a basketball tournament with two other schools. The winners of this tournament will get the opportunity to compete at the Birmingham Championships with twenty other schools. As expected KESH won overall by winning all their games. Davincy had secured majority of the points and had a great influence on other players. Bring on the Championships!
