Today was a very special evening for our year 11 boys. Today was the last and final time our boys could wear the KESH jersey and represent this fantastic Academy in the finals.
We played Small Heath school who put up an fight. We had managed to take the lead as the constant pressure was too much for our opponents, Benji had managed to intercept a pass from the defender and calmly slot it past the keeper.
First half ends 1-0. Second half we started with great passing and movement off the ball, Zsombor had played a brilliant ball in behind as Matthew used his electric pace to get onto it, cut onto his left and finish with great power and accuracy into the top corner (2-0). Small Heath were creating more chances in the second half and were awarded a penalty which was calmly finished into the bottom right corner (2-1). However, the boys stayed positive and were persistent on achieving the third goal to increase the lead. Vinnie controlled the ball on his chest, set up perfectly for a half volley and smashed it from 30 yards out looping over the keeper. Great effort from Vinnie and a 3-1 lead was very important to relieve pressure.
Unfortunately, due to lack of concentration, the boys allowed a simple cross to creep in back post which their attacker scored and made it 3-2 with 10 minutes left. We had to take out our inner Jose Mourinho tactics and park the bus in order to secure the victory, what a masterclass decision! I must say all credit to the boys for their hard work and efforts to ensure the trophy was brought home to KESH.
It has been fantastic experience to lead my first year of fixtures and extra curricular activities, I have enjoyed it so much. The boys knew after a roller coaster few years missing out on so many opportunities, they can finish their journey at KESH on a high. If you see the boys around school, please congratulate them on their victory.
