Dear Parent/Carer,

We would like to provide some clarification regarding the use of Free School Meal (FSM) funding within the academy.

Students who are eligible for Free School Meals receive a daily allowance of £2.75, which is intended to cover the cost of a main meal and a dessert at lunchtime as part of the academy meal deal.

Please be aware that if a student chooses to purchase additional items or selects food that take them above the daily allowance of £2.75, these additional costs will be charged to their catering account. Where an account falls into debt because of purchases exceeding the FSM entitlement, parents/carers may be asked to reimburse these costs.

To support families in managing the allowance, we are considering placing restrictions on Free School Meals accounts which will limit student purchases to lunchtime only. This will ensure that all students that receive a Free School Meal allocation will have access to a proper meal at lunch time every day. If you have any feedback on this proposal please contact the Academy.

Parents/carers may also request a copy of their child's meal transaction history. This provides a detailed breakdown of items purchased and can help families monitor how the allowance is being used.

We will spend some time in assemblies next week reminding students of the expectations around the appropriate use of their Free School Meal allowance.

If you would like a copy of their meal transaction history, please contact the academy and we will be happy to assist.

Thank you for your continued support.

Yours sincerely,

KESH Academy
